This month we are pleased to turn the spotlight to one of our Dayton interpreters, Fern Leland. For the past seven years Fern has been a member of our Spanish interpreting team. In addition she has also been a valuable part of our office team by working as an Interpreter Coordinator. Last year Fern became our official Trainer of The Community Interpreter training program, giving us the ability to provide a comprehensive 40 hour training program to the rest of our interpreters.
If you have not had the pleasure of meeting Fern her family is from Venezuela. Fern holds a Bachelor’s degree in French and a Masters in clothing design. The fashion degree led her to work in the clothing industry in Los Angeles for 5 years. In addition she has experience in working with mutual fund companies, teaching, and managing a preschool. Fern and her husband live in Dayton; she is the proud mother of two children, Amanda and AJ.
When asked to describe her work and working for Vocalink Fern says,
“I love being able to help patients and clients. I love that it’s never the same-it’s always something new!”
“I plan to interpret for as long as I can, Interpreting keeps me young!”
“I love the people I work with and for at Vocalink. When I have suggestions they are open to listening to them.”
Vocalink is proud to have Fern as a member of our team and we look forward to many more successful years with her.
