/, Interpreting/February Interpreter Spotlight

This month Vocalink is pleased to announce Brain Rowe as our Spotlight Interpreter. Brian was a sales manager at Simply Grand Catering when he was introduced to the world of interpreting. Having graduated with honors from Trinity College with a BA in Spanish and having lived and worked in Madrid, Brian saw an exciting possibility for a second career. He completed the 40 hour training course Bridging the Gap, and in 2008 joined Vocalink.

Brian says he enjoys the impressive collection of professionals that he works with in the medical, business, public schools and legal community, and the camaraderie with his fellow interpreters. He feels interpreting is a challenging mental exercise and that he learns something new each week.

Brian is passionate about his work and the people that he helps every day. He adds, “The silent heroes for me are the first generation immigrants who have decided to take on the challenge of moving to a foreign culture. The work of these newcomers is an act of self-sacrifice for their children. Many of the children that we work with as interpreters will benefit from an American education and opportunities they would not enjoy in their home countries”

Gaining his certification is an immediate goal for Brian, who wants to give back to the community as a court appointed special advocate for organizations like Pro Kids.

Brian feels that the Vocalink staff is very supportive and always displays a positive attitude. He says that it makes the job and his interactions with the office staff more enjoyable.

In his spare time the multitalented Mr. Rowe plays electric bass guitar with his fiancée Nancy in a cover band called the Night Owls in Cincinnati. You can find out more about them at www.cincynightowls.com.

Congratulations Brian!
