Compliance to the industry’s standards is a key factor in any business, but in our line of work it is paramount. As compliance manager for Vocalink, I make sure all interpreters we send to medical facilities have an impeccable record, which in the healthcare industry means an up to date and complete immunization record at the top of the list.
In this immunization record, the interpreter proves that he or she had the MMR1 and MMR2 vaccines, MMR standing for Measles, Mumps and Rubella, the Varicella vaccine and the flu shot. Since many interpreters are not from the United States, when they have difficulties getting the original records that go back to their childhood, a MMR titer test is required, in which MMR IgG antibody titer levels are measured, providing the answers we require. On top of this, we also require from any interpreter that will be working in hospitals or any other healthcare environment, a TB test. These records ensure that the interpreter is compliant to standards, and our clients in this particular field not only know this but have access to the compliance records of any interpreter we send their way. In real time.
But we don’t stop here. Interpreters we send out into the field must also provide other record elements without which they will not be able to work not only in medical installations but anywhere else – not on our watch!
