This month’s interpreter spotlight shines on Ramadan Al-Haddad!
Ramadan has been an Arabic interpreter for more than 10 years, and has worked with Vocalink for over 7 years. He does volunteer work with the Arabic community, and interprets for both the legal and medical fields. He is the only Arabic legal interpreter in the Dayton area. He is currently working on his Ohio Supreme Court certification.
When asked what he likes best about interpreting, Ramadan said, “The thing I like most is the ability and opportunity to help those who don’t speak the language communicate and express themselves. Also, I like meeting new people.”
Ramadan sees the interpreting profession gaining the respect and credit it deserves “for the noble role it plays in bridging cultural and intellectual gaps.”
In December, Ramadan celebrated his 7th anniversary of working with Vocalink. “The thing I like most about working with Vocalink is the pleasure of working with some of the most interesting people. It is like being in the U.N., where there are people from differnt backgrounds. Also, I enjoy having the opportunity to work with some of the most inspiring people I have met, in fact, I feel like I am a member of the family more than a company.
“This month, I celebrate seven wonderful years with this family, and I look forward to many more. I would like to take a moment to acknowledge some of the people that have helped me all these years… people like Marina Camacho, Fern Leland, Lunilia Crespo, Kelly Davis, Melissa Crabtree, and last but not least, Amelia Rodriguez and Lisa Stokesbury, who gave me the opportunity to become a part of this family.
